“It’s beginning to taste a lot like Christmas!”
My wife’s holiday trash is a Christmas tradition at our house. For years we served it as a snack both at home and at Christmas parties. It because so popular with friends and neighbors that we began giving it to special friends as Christmas gifts in holiday cellophane bags tied off with a ribbon.
The beauty of this recipe is the fact that it’s so adjustable. Depending on your taste, you can make this mild, spicy, and/or savory. Want to give it your personal touch? Then add your own favorite chip or small cracker; Karen did exactly that with the Bugles!
The inspiration for this recipe came from “Marlyn’s Trash” in a 2005 cookbook entitled, So Good … Make You Slap Your Mama! II, authored by Marlyn Monette.
Step by step method
-
1
Pre-heat oven to 275-degrees F. Assemble all the ingredients.
-
2
In a heavy saucepan, melt the butter and add all the remaining mix ingredients ... stir and mix well.
-
3
Using two aluminum roaster pans, pour about 3 tablespoons of sauce into each pan.
-
4
Add an equal amount of nuts to each pan. Toss them around until they're coated by the sauce.
-
5
Dividing equal amounts to each pan, slowly add all the remaining mix ingredients to the pans. Pause every so often to gently toss and stir the ingredients while drizzling equal amounts of the remaining sauce over the mix.
-
6
Place both pans (uncovered) in the 275-degree oven and bake for 90 minutes. While baking, every 15 minutes you should stir and toss the ingredients. When done, allow to cool before placing in containers and serve at room temperature.
