About

Hey y’all! I am Johnny Taylor!

I’m the head cook and chief bottle-washer here at Taylor Tastes.

Although I’d been grilling burgers, hotdogs, etc. and smoking briskets, sausage and chickens for many years, I really didn’t get into “real cooking” until I took an early retirement back in 2002.  Even before my retirement I had spent many hours watching legendary television chefs such as Emeril, Justin Wilson, Paula Deen, Sandra Lee, Ina Garten, Ree Drummond and others.  After my retirement I was finally able to begin putting into practice what I had learned from those TV shows and I am so thankful that technology enables me to re-watch almost any longtime past episode I wish to view.  Regardless, that’s how I got to where I am today and I am enjoying cooking daily and blogging about it when I can.

My life is a constant battle between my love for food and not wanting to get fat. My goal is to offer straightforward, simple-to-follow recipes that are wholesome and actually taste good.

A little bit more about me

If you are looking for a professional food/cooking/recipe blog well, you’ve come to the wrong place!  No mass advertising and/or marketing, no online shop, not even a cookbook for sale!  The purpose of this website is simply to share (mostly) healthy recipes, rambling thoughts and the occasional rant with family and friends but anyone is welcome to visit and (hopefully) enjoy the contents.

I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, a gourmet cook. Karen & I do enjoy good healthy food, entertaining friends, and having a good time in the kitchen.  We are both retired now and are empty nesters and I enjoy experimenting with recipes and cooking techniques (often to Karen’s dismay) and posting on this blog. The purpose of this website is to support those pastimes while sharing (mostly) healthy recipes and information with others.
